GE Enters Fuel Cell Market

General Electric (GE) announced Thursday it has entered into ajoint venture with Plug Power, a Latham NY-based company dedicatedto the development and manufacturing of fuel cells, to market fuelcells worldwide. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Thetwo companies will combine efforts to form a new company called GEFuel Cell Systems. GE will own 75% of the new company, with PlugPower owning the rest. GE also acquired 10% of Plug Power ownershipin the deal.

NYSEG Requests Conference On NUG Contracts

New York State Electric &amp Gas (NYSEG) has asked FERC and theNew York State Public Service Commission (PSC) to hold a jointtechnical conference on utility power purchase agreements withnonutility generators (NUGs) as soon as possible. Eight statelawmakers sent a letter to FERC Chairman James Hoecker on thematter last fall, but action was never taken, a NYSEG spokesmannoted.

Tejas Partners in TX, LA Midstream Venture

Shell Oil affiliate Tejas Natural Gas Liquids LLC and EnterpriseProducts Partners L.P. have formed joint venture Entell NGLServices LLC to develop a gas liquids transportation anddistribution system. Entell’s initial asset base will includesubstantially all of Enterprise’s existing pipeline facilities inLouisiana. In addition, Entell will create a pipeline systemlinking storage at Breaux Bridge, LA, to Mont Belvieu, TX. Entellanticipates the system being capable of distributing products fromkey NGL sources in southern Louisiana directly to major NGLmarkets, including the lower Mississippi River corridor, Dixiepipeline, Lake Charles, LA, and Mont Belvieu.

Gregory Power Partners (GPP), a joint venture between LG&ampEPower and Columbia Energy’s Columbia Electric Corp., securedfinancing last week for a new gas-fired co-generation project nearGregory, TX, allowing the partnership to proceed with powercontract obligations with Reynolds Metal Co., the second largestU.S. aluminum producer. Terms of the financing were not disclosed.
