New York LNG Backer Sues to Block MARAD Decision

Atlantic Sea Island Group LLC Wednesday sued to stay a November decision by the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) granting New Jersey “adjacent coastal state” designation in the federal review of Safe Harbor Energy, a proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal.

National Grid, KeySpan File $7.3B Merger Plan with FERC

National Grid and KeySpan Corp. submitted their merger plan to FERC on Thursday, promising no adverse impacts on the wholesale energy market nor any cross subsidization from regulated to unregulated operations from the $7.3 billion combination, which would create the third largest gas and electric utility company in the United States.

Still Frigid, But Northeast Prices Plunge; Rest of Market Gains

Apparently Wednesday’s Iroquois Zone 2 quote of $76 will stand for a while as the spot market’s price record, because Northeast quotes tumbled Thursday about as fast as they had skyrocketed the day before. Conversely, the rest of the market ranged from flat to up nearly half a dollar after having been softer the day before.
