The Iowa Utilities Board has begun an emergency investigation tostudy the adequacy of payment options available to natural gascustomers following the record-high energy bills this winter. Theboard is holding a workshop today in Des Moines, and has invitedall regulated natural gas utilities serving the state toparticipate.

EPA Investigating Nicor’s Mercury Disposal

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to sit down withIllinois’ Nicor Gas officials this week to discuss how the companydisposes of its used gas regulators after investigators foundmercury contamination at a scrapyard used by the company. EPAalready has begun testing five Nicor service centers and otherscrapyards for mercury contamination.
