Tighter Controls on BLM Auctions Sought Following Utah Incident

Interior Department Acting Inspector General Mary L. Kendall has recommended stricter controls on the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) auction process and tougher requirements for bidders to avoid a repeat of the scene last December where a bad-faith bidder disrupted a Utah auction to protest the impact of drilling on the environment (see NGI, Dec. 22, 2008).

Preliminary Tally Affirms El Paso Board Election

A preliminary vote tabulation prepared by an independent inspector has affirmed that shareholders voted to elect all 12 of El Paso Corp.’s board of director nominees at the annual meeting in June. On the day of the annual meeting, Ronald Kuehn Jr., El Paso’s interim CEO, announced that the board had been elected in a close vote (see Daily GPI, June 18).

The Department of Energy’s (DOE) inspector general has agreed to conduct a “preliminary inquiry” into allegations that FERC Chairman Pat Wood and Commissioner Nora M. Brownell gave advance notice to Wall Street analysts of how they intended to vote in pending high-profile cases involving manipulation of western energy markets, according to Sens. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA).
