A trio of lawmakers supporting oil and natural gas drilling in North Carolina introduced a bill Thursday that would extend the deadline for the state to develop its own regulatory program; create a new Oil and Gas Commission; reconstitute the state’s Mining and Energy Commission (MEC); invalidate local bans on oil and gas activities; ban wastewater injection wells, and establish a severance tax.

Source of Washington LNG Storage Explosion Identified

The source, but not the cause, of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank explosion and fire in Washington state has been found, a Salt Lake City-based spokesperson for Williams’ Northwest Pipeline Co. told NGI on Friday. More definitive information is probably still 10 to 14 days away, she said.

Louisiana Lawsuit Targets Pipelines for Coastal Damage

A lawsuit filed last week against pipeline companies in Louisiana by the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (SLFPA-E) is an example of a state agency and its lawyers looking for a big payout, the head of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association (LOGA) told NGI Wednesday. A lawyer for the plaintiff, however, said his client only wants the pipelines to do their share of the work in restoring protections for the state’s coast.

Gas Storage Capacity Grew by 2%, EIA Says

The capacity of underground natural gas storage facilities increased by about 2% from November 2011 to November 2012, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in a new report. The increase was seen in both demonstrated maximum and design capacities.

NGL Energy Partners LP has acquired the assets of High Roller Wells LLC’s Big Lake SWD No. 1 Ltd., a Texas limited partnership. The Big Lake acquisition expands NGL’s water services business by adding a high-capacity, strategically located, oil and gas water disposal facility to its portfolio of water treatment and gathering infrastructure. The acquisition brings an 25,000 barrels of disposal capacity in the growing Permian Basin in West Texas, the company said.
