Not only has Canadian natural gas production peaked, but it has been declining at an annualized rate of 5% over the past three months, and gas imports to the United States could be down an estimated 4% (0.5 Bcf/d) through 2003. Still, opportunities exist for exploration and production companies, according to analysts.

Tennessee reported Tuesday it had identified a minor valve leakon its 200 Line #2 near Main Line Valve 259 (West Granville, MA).Adverse weather is preventing repairs temporarily, Tennessee said,but it expects to make them Thursday. No nominations or schedulingcuts are anticipated before repairs begin, the pipeline said, butit may be required to limit meters downstream of Station 254 toprimary services for Thursday’s gas day.

Enron Buys Columbia’s Wholesale Operations

Enron North America Corp. was identified yesterday as the buyerof Columbia Energy Group’s wholesale marketing and trading arm. Thedeal is expected to boost Enron’s wholesale gas sales volumes tomore than 16 Bcf/d and move its power sales above 410 millionMWh/year, according to year-end 1998 volumes reported by bothcompanies. And although Columbia won’t be rolling in the doughafter this one, it will be relieved of a business that has been aheadache for years.
