Obama Jobs Proposal to Include ‘Cash for Caulkers’ Legislation

President Obama last week called on Congress to provide incentives for consumers who retrofit their homes to become more energy efficient, “which we know creates jobs, saves money for families and reduces the pollution that threatens our environment.” One proposal would expand “select” initiatives in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to promote energy efficiency and clean energy jobs that have been proven “to be particularly popular and effective.”

Direct Energy Buys Entergy Solutions’ Texas Competitive Customer Base

Direct Energy has acquired the competitive electric customer base of Entergy Solutions Ltd. located in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid. The more than 100,000 residential and commercial customers are located throughout Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth and South Texas. The $30 million acquisition increases Direct Energy’s Texas customer base to over one million customers.

Duke Power, MidAmerican Energy File Grid Coordinator Plans at FERC

In separate filings submitted to FERC, Duke Power and MidAmerican Energy proposed to implement independent grid coordinator plans. For its part, Duke Power wants the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (MISO) to serve as its independent transmission coordinator, while MidAmerican plans to contract with a yet-to-be-determined independent transmission service coordinator (TSC).
