GTI Tests Small Gas Liquefiers for Vehicle Fuels, Peak Shaving, Remote Gas Recovery

The Gas Technology Institute (GTI), in collaboration with the Department of Energy and Brookhaven National Labs, successfully completed testing of a new small-scale natural gas liquefier that could be used to provide liquefied natural gas (LNG) for vehicles, utility peak shaving applications, remote gas recovery, and liquefaction of renewable resources such as digester or landfill gas.

TXU Fuels, Energy Transfer Team Up to Market East Texas Transportation Services

Dallas-based Energy Transfer Co., which is in the process of expanding its Texas gas pipeline system, and TXU Fuel Co. have agreed to jointly market natural gas gathering and transportation services to producers in East Texas for redelivery to markets at the Katy Hub, near Houston. The agreement includes firm pipeline capacity for up to 150 MMcf/d with expansion capability up to 250 MMcf/d.

Judge Upholds Gas Monopoly Award Against Duke

A U.S. district judge has upheld an arbitration award in a natural gas monopoly lawsuit against Duke Energy Fuels LLP and Duke Energy Field Services Inc. (DEFS), ruling that Duke illegally maintained its monopoly power in the gas processing market in Panola County, TX. The ruling rejected Duke’s attempt to vacate an earlier award to provide a gas processing contract on competitive terms to American Central Eastern Texas Gas Co. LLP and American Central Gas Cos. Inc.

Futures Short-Covering Fuels Technical Rally

Despite a disappointing storage report and continuedabove-normal temperatures across the country, natural gas futuresbubbled higher yesterday as technical traders found good value inprices near the bottom end of the recent trading range. And byadvancing 6.2 cents to settle at $1.837, the March contract notonly washed clean Wednesday’s declines but also positioned itselfback in the middle of the $1.725-925 trading range. Estimatedvolume was a somewhat lackluster 61,716 contracts.
