Early Touch of Winter Causes Prices to Spike

With freezes expected to penetrate much of the South Wednesday night and not lightening up much Thursday, there was plenty of cold weather to go around in sending cash prices skyrocketing Wednesday. Triple-digit gains were recorded across the board, and several points soared by $3 or more. The impact on NGI’s Daily Cash Market price chart was significant, with $9 and $10 readings replacing the $7 and $8 marks that dominated trading Tuesday.

Judge Freezes Rocky Mountain Energy Assets; Ex-CEO, Counsel Suspected of ‘Pump and Dump’ Scheme

A Houston judge has frozen the assets of former executives with Rocky Mountain Energy Corp. (RMEC) after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) alleged the company had illegally worked to manipulate its stock price. The SEC accused RMEC, its former CEO John Ehrman and former general counsel Roderick Johnson of an ongoing “pump and dump” scheme to raise the stock price, according to the complaint.

The Virginia State Corporation Commission (VSCC) has approved Virginia Natural Gas’ (VNG) request to use a weather normalization adjustment (WNA) to reduce the effect of weather on customer’s natural gas bills. The company also committed not to file for a general rate increase for at least two years.

Houston Judge Freezes Accounts of Enron’s Fastow

A federal magistrate judge in Houston Thursday signed warrants to freeze some accounts of former Enron CFO Andrew Fastow, family and friends, according to The Houston Chronicle. This action came one day after former Enron colleague Michael Kopper pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy charges in a Houston court, naming Fastow as a co-conspirator in the scheme to defraud Enron of millions of dollars (see Daily GPI, Aug. 22).

Judge Freezes Enron North America Payments to Other Units

The U.S. bankruptcy judge handling Enron Corp.’s bankruptcy proceedings on Monday froze the payments of Enron North America that had been funding operations for other business units. Since Dec. 2, 2001, when Enron filed for bankruptcy, Enron North America has given $632 million to the parent company for disbursement to various units. Although some of the money has been returned, creditors of Enron North America have suggested the subsidiary is being “plundered” and requested a halt to the payments.
