The former CEO of Enterprise Products Partners LP is forming a new private midstream partnership with the backing of Kayne Anderson Energy Funds. Robert G. Phillips, who was president, CEO and a director of Enterprise Products Partners — one of the largest publicly traded midstream partnerships in the country — will head Crestwood Midstream Partners LLC. Phillips was chairman of the general partner of GulfTerra Energy Partners LP until September 2004 when the company merged with Enterprise; he resigned from Enterprise in May. Crestwood, to be based in Houston, will begin with a total equity commitment of $150 million from Kayne Anderson. Kayne Anderson Energy Funds manages $1.85 billion of capital for investment in the energy industry, and it invests private capital in high-growth midstream, exploration and production and oilfield services companies.

Enterprise Consolidates Gas Services, Marketing Activities

Houston-based Enterprise Products Partners LP is forming a natural gas services and marketing business as the focal point for all of its existing gas supply and marketing activities, which include producer wellhead services, facility fuel procurement, pipeline and storage capacity optimization and market customer delivery arrangements. The new unit will operate as a parallel business to Enterprise’s existing natural gas liquids (NGL) and petrochemical services and marketing business.

Wood Mackenzie: Forming Tropical Storm Has Potential to Affect GOM

A tropical storm now forming in the Atlantic Basin is “a storm with the potential we are really looking out for,” a Wood Mackenzie energy analyst said Wednesday. If the developing storm becomes the next hurricane, to be named Ernesto, “it has a much more favorable pathway to affect Gulf of Mexico (GOM) production” and “could turn into a threat by the end of this week potentially,” said Eugene Kim, Wood Mac’s senior analyst for North American natural gas research.

Scana Companies to Form New Interstate Pipeline System

Two Scana subsidiaries, South Carolina Pipeline Corp. (SCPC) and SCG Pipeline Inc. (SCG), filed a FERC application Monday to merge, forming a new 2,032-mile open-access interstate gas pipeline transportation only system with about 661,000 Dth/d of estimated firm capacity.
