Aspen Files Lawsuit Against Former CEO for Alleged Embezzlement

Oklahoma City-based Aspen Group Resources Corp., a small independent producer focused on the Midcontinent region of the United States and western Canada, revealed last Friday that it has filed a lawsuit in the District Court of Canadian County, OK, against Jack Wheeler, the company’s former chairman and CEO. Aspen alleges that Wheeler misappropriated funds and assets and “engaged in a pattern of conduct to conceal his actions from the board of directors.”

Enron Files to Build Pipeline From Bahamas To Florida

Calypso Pipeline, a subsidiary of Enron Global LNG, asked FERC last week for permission to build a $132 million pipeline that would transport up to 832,000 MMBtu/d of regasified liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Bahamas to an interconnect with Florida Gas Transmission. According to Calypso’s application, the project would provide Florida consumers with “the opportunity to diversify their gas supply options with the installation of minor additional pipeline facilities.”

NSTAR Files (Again) for Gas Cost Change

NSTAR Gas filed Tuesday with the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Energy (MDTE) a request to reduce the Cost of Gas Adjustment (CGA) to 81.80 cents per therm from the current price of 89.36 cents per therm.

BC Gas Files to Increase Gas Costs, Delay Full Impact

BC Gas Utility has applied to the British Columbia Utilities Commission for a rate increase that will add approximately 16% to the typical residential customer’s total gas bill, about 6% less than the wholesale cost the distributor believes it may have to pay over the next 12 months.

Texas REP Files for Bankruptcy, Cites Power Market Uncertainty

With the state’s deregulated marketplace just one year old, retail electric provider (REP) Texas Commercial Energy (TCE) on Thursday filed for Chapter 11 protection. The company claimed that “significantly higher volatility and uncertainty in the Texas wholesale power supply market” since the beginning of 2003 made it “necessary” to protect its estimated 1,500 customers.

Puget Sound Energy Files for 17% Gas Rate Increase

Bellevue, WA-based Puget Sound Energy (PSE) announced Wednesday it was filing with state regulators for about a 17%, or almost $10 monthly, retail natural gas rate increase in response to what the combination utility under Puget Energy called “steeply rising wholesale prices.”
