Futures Out of ‘Bullish Ammunition,’ Settle Lower on the Week

Following repeated failed attempts to bust out to the upside earlier in the week, exhausted traders were comfortable with doing not much of anything in quiet trading on Friday. After trading lower in the overnight Thursday Globex session, December natural gas maintained a slim 14-cent range Friday before closing at $7.794, down 16.1 cents on the day and 9 cents lower than the previous week’s close.

Futures Continue to Drop But Bearish Momentum Slows; Traders Look for Bottom

While a number of market experts say the current downtrend in natural gas futures might be almost exhausted, the March contract on Monday picked up where it left off last week, heading lower. The natural gas prompt month extended its decline streak to six consecutive regular sessions on Monday, finishing 7.3 cents lower at $7.243.

Market-Area Quotes Fall; Other Points Mostly Up

Although winter storm conditions were due to persist through Wednesday in the Northeast and Midwest, they had exhausted much of their price-boosting ability in the key northern market areas Tuesday. Production-area numbers continued to rise by modest amounts in most cases, but quotes were mostly flat to as much as 30 cents lower in the Northeast, Midwest and California.
