U.S. natural gas production is expected to increase every year through 2035, thanks to increased shale development, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) final Annual Energy Outlook 2012 (AEO2012). Just as the preliminary report in January found (see NGI, Jan. 30), the EIA also believes the United States will transition from being a net importer to a net exporter of natural gas in about nine years.

EPA to ‘Review, Consider’ Industry Report on Methane Emissions
The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) said it would “review and consider” an industry report’s claims that the agency has significantly overestimated methane emissions from natural gas well operations, particularly from unconventional wells using hydraulic fracturing. It contends, however, that its emissions estimates are based on the best data available.
Mississippian Lime Lifts Kansas Oil Output
