Qatar Petroleum inked two blockbuster liquefied natural gas (LNG) transactions Sunday and Monday, both involving development of its North Field, which eventually could become the world’s largest LNG supplier. On Sunday, the company signed a $6 billion deal with Royal Dutch/Shell Group for development of another LNG train, and on Monday France’s Total bought a 16.7% stake in the Qatargas II LNG train from partners Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil for about $3.5 billion.

CPUC Files Challenge to FERC’s LNG Jurisdictional Ruling

Noting that it recognizes liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a viable option that eventually could serve parts of the state’s strongly gas-dependent energy market, the California Public Utilities Commission late last Friday filed a request for rehearing of FERC’s March 24 ruling asserting exclusive jurisdiction over a proposed LNG receiving terminal in Long Beach Harbor.
