Alaska’s Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $5 million contract for evaluation of alternatives for a natural gas pipeline to deliver gas from the North Slope to in-state markets to an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corp., the firm said Thursday.

BP Unit Files Application with WA Regulators for 720 MW Plant
A unit of BP PLC has submitted an application with the Washington State Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council to construct and operate a 720 MW, natural gas-fired cogeneration facility in the state. Of note, BP Westcoast Products LLC is not closing the door on bringing in another company to participate in the management, development and construction of the plant in exchange for an equity interest once BP Westcoast obtains a permit.
MMS Awards 534 Central Gulf Leases
The Interior Department’s Minerals Management Service completed its two-phase bid evaluation process for Central Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 178, Part 1 on Friday, awarding 534 leases worth a total of $499.6 million. MMS actually rejected 13 high bids worth $5.7 million, calling them “insufficient for fair market value,” but said the sale indicated a “continued strong showing” by both majors and independents.
