The Laclede Group Inc. is buying Southern Union Co.’s Missouri Gas Energy (MGE) and New England Gas Co. (NEG) utilities for $1.035 billion in cash and debt. Southern Union was purchased earlier this year by Energy Transfer Equity LP (ETE) an affiliate of Energy Transfer Partners LP (ETP), which focuses on the midstream.

Cheniere Energy Inc. has closed the sale of its 30% limited partner interest in Freeport LNG Development LP for net proceeds of approximately $104 million to ZHA FLNG Purchaser LLC, an entity formed by Zachry American Infrastructure LLC and Hastings Funds Management USA Inc. on behalf of institutional investors, Cheniere said. Net proceeds are to be used to pay down a portion of the $400 million, 9.75% term loan held by a Cheniere subsidiary, the company said (see Daily GPI, April 26). The transaction is in line with Cheniere’s strategy of improving its capital structure and reducing debt.
Clarification
In a story in Daily GPI’s Tuesday edition titled “GE Energy Expands Energy Ventures, Adds KMI Retail Assets,” the full name of the entity involved in the transactions is GE Energy Financial Services. It was referred to as “GE Energy” after the first paragraph, which is incorrect.
CA Natural Gas Studies Lining Up
With a new major entity in the state’s energy mix — a $5 billion power authority — California’s lineup of pending natural gas and electricity reports is growing, and two existing ones are getting more fine-tuning at the state’s energy commission. After the five-member California Energy Commission postponed adopting reports on electricity/natural gas “trends” and the state’s gas transmission/storage infrastructure, revised versions of those studies may be delayed until Sept. 19, according to energy commission sources.
