CA Environmentalist Supports New Power Plants, LNG Terminal

As part of a broad overview of the state’s updated Energy Action Plan (EAP II), a San Francisco-based environmental leader who strongly endorses the plan’s emphasis on giving first priority to energy efficiency and renewables threw his support to the need for new natural gas-fired power plants and eventually a coastal liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility.

NARUC Endorses Cooperation on Siting LNG Terminals

State commissioners have joined the ranks of those touting the wonders of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG). The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), noting the importance of increasing natural gas supplies, passed a resolution at its summer meeting last Wednesday encouraging cooperation of state and federal agencies in the siting of LNG regasification terminals.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) last Wednesday gave the natural gas market a short-term window of opportunity — through the winter — to straighten out the market’s private and confidential price reporting and index-setting system through voluntary reporting of gas transactions to index developers or face more onerous government-mandated price reporting requirements down the road.
