Northwest reported encountering numerous difficulties due to terrain conditions in the rerouting of its 22-inch diameter mainline near Boise, ID. As a result, the corresponding outage has been moved from Wednesday of this week to Nov. 18, and in an effort to reduce customer impacts, Northwest has also rescheduled a Lava Hot Springs Compressor Station engine exchange to Nov. 18-19. Anomaly investigations between the Cisco and Moab compressor stations are still under evaluation, the pipeline said. At this time Northwest does not anticipate any customer impacts related to this project but said that if this outlook should change, it will notify customers as soon as possible.

January Futures Rebound on Expiration; Downtrend Still Seen Intact

After encountering support just above the important $10.650 level in morning trade, January natural gas futures rallied higher in the afternoon, before expiring at $11.431, up 40.9 cents for the day. The $10.650 level marks the top of the Hurricane Katrina gap on the perpetual chart.

Spikes in Frigid Northeast Lead Overall Gains

Encountering colder weather in key northern market areas than they had been led to expect a few days earlier, and also spurred by a screen advance of nearly 20 cents on Tuesday, cash traders pushed swing prices higher at all points Wednesday. Bidweek numbers also were reported to be on the rise.

Choppy Futures Trade Produces Familiar Result

After encountering heavy overhead selling above last Thursday’s $4.13 high, natural gas futures sunk lower Monday as traders took back early-session advances and demoted the market to its lowest level in more than a week. The July contract closed 4 cents weaker at $3.939, but comparatively, that was the good news for bulls. The rest of the summer strip slipped 4.1 cents and the winter strip sunk 5.4 cents. Keeping with the trend, the 12-month strip tumbling 5.4 cents as well.

Altra Throws TransEnergy into Shopping Cart

Not to be outdone by its integrated energy industry brethren,the energy transaction software industry is also encountering itsfair share of consolidation. Altra Energy announced its third majoracquisition of the year Monday, as the Houston-based softwareprovider entered into a definitive agreement to purchaseTransEnergy. Terms of the agreement between the two privatecompanies were not disclosed, but Paul Bourke, Altra’s CEO, saidthe combined company’s annual revenue will grow into the $50 to$100 million range.

PX May Delay Hourly Power Pricing

The start of hourly electricity pricing in California isexpected to be delayed because the state chartered wholesaleelectricity spot market is encountering logistical and technicalproblems. The Board of Directors for the state Power Exchange (PX)meets today to determine how far into July to postpone the openingof the new market. A formal announcement on a new target date isexpected to be made following the board meeting.
