Calendar year 2005 had the highest global surface temperature in more than a century, narrowly edging out 1998 — the warmest previous year — as the warmest year on record, according to James Hansen, director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

After edging modestly higher in the 30 minutes following release of storage data showing a 208 Bcf withdrawal, the natural gas futures market kicked into overdrive at 11 a.m. Thursday as bulls made another attempt at the $6.00 mark. However, after notching a new all-time high in March futures and a new 23-month prompt contract top, the market slumped at the close, denying bulls their coveted $6.00 print yet again. March finished at $5.828, up 18.4 cents for the session but 8.2 cents off its new $5.91 peak.

As bidweek approached the home stretch Thursday, traders foundfixed prices mostly a little higher than they had been Wednesdaybut still considerably below where they had been at the start ofthe week Monday. A marketer whose earliest purchases into PanhandleEastern were in the mid $2.00s said the numbers rebounded to$1.93-94 Thursday after having dipped to just under $1.90Wednesday.
