Separate reports confirmed the competitiveness of natural gas as a transportation fuel, with the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) maintaining a strong pricing edge over gasoline, diesel and other alternative fuels. At the same time, liquefied natural gas (LNG) is expanding its potential transportation options to include rail.

SM Energy Co. is seeing encouraging results from a test well drilled in the Woodbine formation and has added about 10,000 net acres to its position on the northeastern edge of the Eagle Ford Shale in East Texas.

Shale producers should take seriously the questions and issues being raised by environmentalists and others with concerns about hydraulic fracturing (fracking), and be “open and transparent” about the composition of their fracking fluids, FERC Commissioner John Norris said Tuesday.

The Interior Department said Tuesday it will take another pass at the rules set by the last administration for extracting shale oil from two million acres of federal land in Utah, Colorado and Wyoming, with the possibility of cutting the acreage total and raising royalties.
