Florida Gas Transmission, citing significant market-area demand,issued an Overage Alert Day notice Tuesday for the system east ofStation 12 (Santa Rosa County in the Florida Panhandle). The noticehas a 6% tolerance for daily negative imbalances. FGT willre-evaluate conditions this morning before deciding whether toextend the OFO through today’s gas day.

Tennessee, CNG Team to Serve East

El Paso Energy’s Tennessee Gas Pipeline and Consolidated NaturalGas’ CNG Transmission jointly unveiled the Atlantic AllianceProject on Monday. If successful, this project will transport up to750,000 Dth/d from Chicago market center and the Niagara ImportPoint into eastern markets.

West Plunges; Heat Supports Prices in East

As many had expected, prospects of severe heat averted much ofthe softness that normally accompanies a Fourth of July weekend,considered the year’s lowest demand period. But that was true onlyin eastern markets Friday. The bottom was dropping out for pricesin the West, particularly at the Southern California border.

Transportation Notes

Five meters at the discharge side of Longview Station on theWillow Springs Lateral in Texas Eastern’s East Texas zone will beshut in today through June 21 for road crossing work and anomalyrepair. The project was delayed two days from a previouslyscheduled Monday start. The same meters will remain shut in June22-27 for previously posted Department of Transportation-relatedwork. In a separate project, Texas Eastern will require the shut-inof all meters upstream of the Iowa (LA) Plant June 21-27 as itupgrades and installs new facilities on Line 41 between Iowa andthe Grand Chenier (LA) Station. The plant’s annual maintenanceshutdown will coincide with the Line 41 outage.

Southern Union to Merge with Pennsylvania Enterprises

After failing, so far, in its attempt to woo Southwest Gas away from Oneok, Southern Union Co. headed east to announce a friendly $500 million acquisition of distributor Pennsylvania Enterprises Inc. (PEI). With the purchase Southern Union will make its first entry into power marketing.

Trunkline postponed a three-day outage of Valve Section 32between the Cypress and Kountze Stations in East Texas until June.It will require shutting in all receipts upstream of the sectionunless they entail equal deliveries upstream.

Maintenance on parts of Columbia Gulf’s East Lateral system(Paradis Line) will begin Saturday, two days earlier thanpreviously announced. Originally scheduled to begin May 10 (seeDaily GPI, April 19), the work will take three to 10 days tocomplete and require about 65,000 dth/d to be shut in at 11measurement stations.

Vector Ahead in the East-Bound Race

The U.S. leg of the proposed Vector Pipeline has won finalenvironmental approval at FERC, moving it within one step ofbecoming certified as the first new pipeline capable of providingtakeaway transportation for the steady influx of western Canadiangas supplies entering the Chicago market. The Commission’s actioncomes in the wake of the National Energy Board’s final approval ofthe 15-mile Canadian portion of the project.
