Customers Line Up for Dominion’s Choice Program, But Suppliers Stay Home

Dominion Virginia Power said droves of large industrial and commercial customers have volunteered for one of its three electric choice pilot programs, which will allow customers to buy power from alternative suppliers beginning in January. However, all those eager customers may end up having to stick with regulated utility supply service because so far no suppliers have shown any interest — a problem Virginia has had all along with its retail competition programs.

Lenders Eager to Finance Nation’s Largest Merchant Plants

Lenders came out in droves last week to finance the two largest merchant power plants in the nation. Panda Energy and TECO Power Services (TPS) said 40 banks participated in the general syndication, which was oversubscribed by $1.2 billion, including a 36% over-subscription on the $500 million equity bridge loan and a 62% oversubscription on the $1.7 billion non-recourse portion.
