Centrica Corrals Texas Market with AEP Purchases

UK-based Centrica plc is rounding up more than 850,000 Texas customers after agreeing to purchase two retail electric providers (REPs) of American Electric Power (AEP). The deal, which includes power supply and service agreements, adds customers of Corpus Christi-based CPL Retail Energy and WTU Retail Energy, based in Abilene. When the transaction is completed, Centrica will have nearly 4.5 million customers in Canada and the United States, making it the largest deregulated energy services company in North America.

SEC, Justice Begin Probe of Employee Charges at Baker Hughes

Last week Baker Hughes Inc. disclosed that it is under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice regarding bribery-related allegations by a former regional operations manager for the company’s oil and gas drilling operations in Nigeria. Alan Ferguson, a British national who was overseeing a division of Baker Hughes’ operations in Nigeria, filed the lawsuit late last last month, claiming the company fired him for refusing to pay a bribe to a Nigerian oil official.

KeySpan Discloses Insider Trade Investigation by SEC

KeySpan Corp. disclosed Friday in a proxy statement that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a formal order of investigation on March 5 for alleged insider trading by individual officers of the company that may have occurred before it announced a special charge last July. The individual officers being investigated were not named.

Consolidated Edison Inc. last week disclosed that it has approved plans for its Con Edison Development (CED) subsidiary to add capacity totaling more than 600 MW at power generating facilities in New Jersey and Massachusetts. The plant expansions will take place at facilities owned by CED in Lakewood, NJ, and West Springfield, MA.

Duke/Fluor Daniel To Build Four Power Plants For Duke Unit

Duke/Fluor Daniel, a joint venture between Duke Energy and Fluor Corp,. yesterday disclosed that it has been awarded contracts by Duke Energy North America (DENA) to perform engineering, procurement and construction services for four natural gas-fired, combined cycle power generation facilities with a combined capacity of 3,050 MW.
