Entergy: Trading Venture Employees May Have Misreported Prices

Entergy Corp. on Tuesday disclosed in its latest quarterly report that the utility’s energy trading joint venture, Entergy-Koch Trading, “has become aware that some of its employees may have misreported prices and volumes to energy industry publications.”

El Paso to Take $1.5B in Impairment Charges in 2Q Due to Asset Sales

El Paso Corp. disclosed on Friday that it will take $1.3-1.5 billion pre-tax asset impairment charges in the second quarter for its petroleum (including Aruba), telecommunications, and other asset sales. The company already said it expected charges of $150-200 million for the California settlement. It also expects severance and other charges related to its Clean Slate cost cutting initiative of approximately $30 million, bringing total impairment changes to between $1.48 billion and $1.73 billion.

El Paso Identifies More False Price Reports; Prosecutors Say Part of Conspiracy

El Paso Corp. disclosed last Monday it has furnished the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Houston with details of more incidents in which its employees gave deceptive information on natural gas trades to the energy trade publication, Platts’ Inside F.E.R.C. At the same time, federal prosecutors said in court the false reporting practices of El Paso traders were part of a two-year-old conspiracy to manipulate energy prices.
