Spectra Energy Partners LP said Greg Harper has resigned as president, CEO and member of the board of directors of Spectra Energy Partners GP LLC effective Dec. 5. “Greg has decided to pursue another opportunity outside of the company,” said Chairman Fred Fowler. “I am very appreciative of his service to Spectra Energy Partners and wish him all the best in his new endeavor.” A successor for Harper will be named in the near future, the company said.

Piedmont Natural Gas Co. CEO Thomas E. Skains was elected to serve as chairman of the American Gas Association’s (AGA) board of directors for 2009. Skains joined Charlotte, NC-based Piedmont Natural Gas in 1995, became COO in 2002 and became CEO in 2003. He previously served as senior vice president of Transportation and Customer Services at Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corp. and was a corporate attorney in Houston. AGA’s other officers for 2009 will be: Robert C. Skaggs, Jr., CEO of NiSource Inc. (first vice chairman); John W. Somerhalder II, CEO of AGL Resources Inc. (second vice chairman); and David M. McClanahan, CEO of CenterPoint Energy (immediate past chairman).

Houston Exploration Dismisses JANA’s Cash Offer

Following days of silence, Houston Exploration Co. (THX) late Monday said its board of directors has unanimously decided that the unsolicited acquisition proposal by JANA Partners LLC (see Daily GPI, June 23) was not in the best interests of its shareholders. Instead, the independent announced that Lehman Brothers Inc. will help “in exploring a broad range of strategic alternatives to further enhance shareholder value.”
