PPL Says U.S. Justice Dept. ‘Favorably’ Concludes PJM Probe

Following on the heels of an announcement by Pennsylvania’s attorney general that PPL EnergyPlus didn’t violate antitrust laws in PJM Interconnection’s market, PPL last Thursday received a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in which the agency said that it had “favorably concluded” its investigation of the company.

Long Beach Gas Dept. Inks 18-Month Deal with Coral

The City of Long Beach (CA) Gas Department last Tuesday indicated its has signed an 18-month supply deal with Coral Marketing tied to San Juan Basin prices to provide all of its interstate supplies, or about 5.5 to 6 Bcf annually. It is priced at 2.5 cents/therm under the San Juan price, with a ceiling of 80 cents/therm, according to Chris Garner, the director of Long Beach’s municipal gas, water and electric department.

Interior Dept. Opposes Mandatory Pre-Filing Process

Although the use of the pre-filing collaborative process inhydroelectric relicensing cases is still “too new” to determinewhether it would also work for gas pipeline projects, theDepartment of Interior says its supports FERC efforts to promote”pre-filing communications and consultations” with the agency andother stakeholders in the gas arena. However, it agreed withinterstate gas pipelines that participation in the collaborativeprocess should not be mandated.
