Nova Scotia Looking for Another Gas Distributor

The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board has set July 8 as the application deadline for companies interested in becoming natural gas distributors in the province. Nova Scotia has been without a gas distributor since last year, when Sempra Atlantic Gas surrendered its exclusive province-wide franchise (see NGI, Oct. 1, 2001).

Analysts: Dynegy, Enron Merger May Be in Trouble

Dynegy Chairman Chuck Watson said his company is “encouraged” by Enron’s success in extending a deadline on a $690 million obligation until mid-December and is “working to accelerate the regulatory approvals required to complete the merger with Enron Corp.” in light of the continuing free fall of Enron’s stock Wednesday. The stock fell more than $2 early in the day to $4.75 but moved back above $5 following Enron’s announcement that it was able to find some breathing room.

Barrett Postpones Meeting as Shell Deadline Passes

Denver-based Barrett Resources Corp., still stating publicly that it is barring the doors against a hostile takeover by giant Royal Dutch/Shell, postponed its annual shareholder meeting set for early May, as it continues to search for strategic options to Shell’s cash offer of $55 per share. Barrett rejected the amount as inadequate, but Shell has continued the pursuit, extending its offer through midnight last Friday.

Petrobank Gives Ranger Access Deadline

Petrobank Energy and Resources gave the board of directors ofRanger Oil an ultimatum yesterday: Give full access to Ranger’sconfidential data room under Petrobank’s terms no later than 5 p.m.(MDT) on Thursday, or Petrobank will not amend or extend its offer toacquire all of the common shares of Ranger. (see Daily GPI, June 9) This would mean Petrobank’sexisting offer would run out next Monday, at 9 a.m. Calgary time.
