Cabot Reports Record Year-End Reserves, Mostly Gas

Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. on Tuesday reported record proved reserves of 1,202 billion cubic feet equivalent (Bcfe) for the company at the end of 2004, up 5% over last year.

Trinidad’s Atlantic LNG Completes Expansion Project

Trinidad and Tobago’s Atlantic LNG completed its third liquefaction train, a 3.3 billion cubic meter/year facility that brings plant capacity to 12.8 Bcm/year (453 Bcf/year or about 1.2 Bcf/d). The addition of the third train marks the completion of a US$1.1 billion expansion that started in the first quarter of 2000. The first phase of that expansion, Train 2, was completed on Aug. 12, 2002.

Statoil Buys Cove Point LNG Capacity, Norwegian LNG Supply from El Paso

El Paso Corp. has sold its rights to a 17-year supply (2.4 billion cubic meters or 1.8 million tons per year) of Norwegian liquefied natural gas (LNG) and about one-third of the import capacity at the Cove Point, MD LNG terminal to Statoil for $210 million.

BP Gas Plant Explosion Under Investigation

A natural gas plant in Fort Saskatchewan owned by BP Canada, which had about 160,000 cubic meters of ethane gas in it, exploded early Sunday morning sending a gas plume into the sky that could be seen several miles away. Four workers at the site at the time of the accident were safely evacuated, and an investigation has begun on the cause.

Transportation Notes

Columbia Gulf said a heating value limit of 1,050 Btus per cubic foot on gas tendered to its system, initiated in January, will remain in effect at least until the end of September.
