Low natural gas prices have created a buying opportunity among dry gas-directed companies for larger players whose pockets are lined with oil dollars, according to consultancy Deloitte. And in the midstream, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) will be propelled by a consolidation trend among master limited partnerships (MLP), according to a midyear report on M&A activity.

Braskem to Take Over Petrochemical Operations at Marcus Hook

Braskem America on Wednesday agreed to take over some of the petrochemical operations at the old Sunoco Marcus Hook Industrial Complex south of Philadelphia with a $56 million infusion and another $15 million in state support that preserves more than 100 jobs and creates at least 28 more.

Sempra Energy’s Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) has named Dennis Arriola as president and COO to fill the vacancy created when Anne Shen-Smith was named chair and CEO. SoCalGas Chairman and CEO Michael Allman resigned in June. Arriola returns after spending 14 years at the company and at Sempra; most recently he was CFO of San Jose, CA-based SunPower Corp. Between 1994-2008 Arriola had a variety of leadership positions at SoCalGas and related companies, the last as CFO of SoCalGas and Sempra’s San Diego Gas and Electric Co. Arriola has an MBA from Harvard and an undergraduate degree in economics from Stanford.

Contested Hearing on EOG ‘Fracking’ Sand Plant Set for July 12

The Texas State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH), which was created to referee contested cases, will hold a hearing July 12 in Gainesville, TX, on EOG Resources Inc.’s application for an air permit to build a plant to process sand to be used primarily to hydraulically fracture (frack) oil and natural gas wells.
