California Points Steady, Northeast Plunges, and Futures Creep Lower

Physical natural gas prices across the country retreated on average by about 7 cents Monday, but Northeast locations had to endure double-digit losses, and in southern California prices were flat to a couple of cents higher. At the close of futures trading the April contract was down by 5.5 cents to $2.269 and May futures had fallen 5.2 cents to $2.373. April crude oil dropped $1.06 to $106.34/bbl.

BLM Mulls New Gas, Oil Leases in Eastern Utah

Despite problems with past energy lease sales in Utah, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Canyon Country District plans to conduct additional planning and analysis for new natural gas, oil and potash (mined salt) leasing on about 783,000 acres of public lands within the Moab and Monticello planning areas in the eastern part of the state. Specifically, the Interior Department’s BLM intends to prepare a master leasing plan (MLP), amendments to the Moab and Monticello Resource Management Plans (RMP) and a single environmental impact statement (EIS).

Traders See Bottoming Market, Yet March Weakens

Cash prices worked higher Thursday amid nuclear outages and supportive weather in a few regions of the country. Northeast points registered stout gains, and for the most part traders were able to complete their exchanges prior to the 10:30 a.m. EST Energy Information Administration (EIA) report that showed a withdrawal of 166 Bcf, somewhat lighter than expected.
