MarkWest Purchases Gas Gathering Systems in Oklahoma

Denver-based MarkWest Energy Partners LP has purchased 100% of the ownership interest in Santa Fe Gathering LLC and the Grimes Gathering System in Roger Mills and Beckham counties, OK, for an undisclosed amount. Current system throughput on the Grimes system, which was constructed in May 2005, is 16 MMcf/d.

Transportation Notes

CenterPoint issued an Operational Alert, saying it was experiencing capacity constraints on the far west end of Line AD in Oklahoma’s Hemphill and Roger Mills Counties (westernmost portion of the West 1 Pooling Area). It listed 15 receipt points as being constrained (see the bulletin board for details). Effective with the start of Wednesday’s gas day CenterPoint limited capacity on the affected section of Line AD to 70,000 Dth/d until further notice, but said it anticipates no impact on its ability to meet primary firm receipt obligations or overall receipt entitlements in the West 1 Pooling Area.

FERC on Wednesday gave environmental clearance for Caledonia Energy Partners to convert a nearly depleted natural gas reservoir in Monroe and Lowndes counties, MS, into a high-deliverability, multi-cycle storage field with the capacity to store 11.7 Bcf of working gas.

Sempra, Utilities Sued Over Pricing by Bay Area Counties

San Diego-based Sempra Energy and its two utilities, Southern California Gas Co. and San Diego Gas and Electric Co., were accused of driving up wholesale natural gas prices, along with several other natural gas companies, in a lawsuit filed in a California Superior Court in San Diego Thursday. Separate suits were filed by the city/county of San Francisco and the county of Santa Clara.

Isabel Turns Out Lights on Millions; Utilities Call Storm Historic

Hurricane Isabel left her calling card up and down the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern parts of the U.S. on Thursday in the form of massive power outages, with 5.5 million businesses and homes estimated to have had their juice cut off as a result of the massive storm. Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. gave shippers advance notice Friday that it may have to call an operational flow order (OFO) because markets in southeastern Virginia were taking gas at abnormally low levels because of the power outages.

ANR Files for West Leg Expansion in Wisconsin

ANR Pipeline Co. is requesting FERC approval of a $42.1 million pipeline looping and replacement project in Walworth and Rock counties, WI. The West Leg project is designed to add 220,000 Dth/d of firm transportation capacity to its system in order to serve new demand from local distribution companies and power generators.
