Alabama Contributes Royalty Gas to MMS RIK Sale

The state of Alabama plans to contribute some of its royalty share of gas production from the 8(g) area offshore in the Gulf of Mexico to an upcoming sale of federal gas royalties taken in kind by the Minerals Management Service (MMS). MMS and Alabama recently signed a partnership agreement governing the sale. The federal agency previously partnered with Texas in similar sales of royalty-in-kind (RIK) gas.

Patriot Teams Up with Bill Barrett Corp. in Big Horn Basin

Investment fund Patriot Exploration Co. Inc. said Wednesday it will contribute $14.5 million to a joint gas development project in the Big Horn Basin of northwestern Wyoming with Denver-based Bill Barrett Corp. The partnership will cover drilling on more than 160,000 net and 217,000 gross acres in the basin, which the Potential Gas Committee estimates holds 3.14 Tcf of gas but is significantly underexplored.

All Points See Double-Digit Holiday Weekend Dips

Despite a warming trend in the Northeast that would contribute more power generation load to what already existed, the cash market recorded declines of nearly 20 cents or more — often much more — across the board Friday. The extra decline of industrial load over a four-day weekend, slightly negative guidance from Thursday’s 2.5-cent screen drop and persistent concerns over storage issues evidently outweighed the modest increase in fundamental weather support.
