New Duke Study Again Finds Water Well Methane Near PA Shale Wells

Concentrations of methane, ethane and propane were found in higher levels in drinking water for homes within a kilometer of shale gas wells in parts of the Marcellus Shale in northeast Pennsylvania, according to a study released Monday. It was the third such study by Duke University’s Robert Jackson, a professor of environmental sciences.

Pine Ridge Colorado Fire Keeps Gas Wells Shut In

Even though the Pine Ridge fire in western Colorado near the Piceance Basin was deemed less aggressive and more than 25% contained over the weekend, natural gas operators indicated that they will keep their well operations shut for the foreseeable future and are working closely with local authorities and the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM), which are overseeing the fire-fighting efforts.

Mobile CNG Fueling On the Move in British Columbia

Seal Beach, CA-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp.’s fueling infrastructure manufacturer, IMW Industries, on Monday introduced a new self-contained, mobile compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station designed for small to mid-size vehicle fleets. The announcement from IMW’s Vancouver, BC, headquarters comes within days of a Canadian industry-government launch of a nationwide effort to boost the use of natural gas for transportation in Canada (see related story).

Westmont to Reopen Orphaned Oil Wells

Westmont Resources Inc. said Thursday it has purchased 3,400 total leasehold acres and 120 existing oil wells in the Marcellus Shale, part of the company’s goal to produce more than 3,500 bbl of oil per month by the end of 2011.
