While the stock market is concerned about the short-term implications for lower earnings, the joint venture of San Diego-based Sempra Energy’s successful energy-metals trading business with Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) offers plenty to like in the long term, according to Michael Heim, an analyst with A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc., who follows Sempra. He still sees the Sempra stock as valued in the $67/share to $70/share range.

The research also found that only 30% have come to understand how home energy prices are set, and 90% feel they have limited or no control over energy costs.

Futures Drop 11 More Cents as Traders Eye Warm-Up

While temperatures throughout the Midwest and East remained frosty Friday, natural gas futures traders were more concerned with the forecasted warm-up following the weekend. As a result, January futures reached a low of $7.500 before closing at $7.561, down 11 cents on the day and a considerable 86.1 cents lower than the previous week’s settle.
