Gastar 2012 Capex Will Be Marcellus-Heavy

Gastar Exploration Ltd. will devote $100.5 million of its $134.2 million 2012 capital budget to drilling and completion costs, with 89% of that amount ($88.9 million) to be spent on activities in the liquids-rich window of the Marcellus Shale, the company said Tuesday.

Calgary-based Niska Gas Storage Canada ULC recently completed a 10.5 Bcf expansion of storage capacity at its AECO Hub (comprised of the Suffield and Countess facilities). Niska said the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board has approved modifications that will allow a further increase of 10 Bcf in its Countess facility in Alberta. At the conclusion of this expansion, the capacity of the Countess facility will be 60 Bcf (for a total of nearly 140 Bcf at the Niska AECO Hub facilities).

Western Industry Group Lambasts GHG Emissions Regulation Plan

The Western Business Roundtable — which is comprised of senor executives from western U.S. businesses — is expressing its concerns over the possibility that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) might regulate greenhouse gas emissions. The group has launched a nationwide grassroots campaign to help citizens express their opposition to the EPA’s plan, claiming that it “will encourage thousands of lawsuits by environmental extremists against virtually every business activity in America.”

EL Paso Natural Gas Co. (EPNG) is holding a binding open season for a proposed new 2 Bcf storage facility, comprised of four salt caverns, to be located in Pinal County, AZ. The in-service date of the first cavern is scheduled for 2013.

Range Resources Boosts Proved Reserves in 2004

Range Resources Corp. said Wednesday it increased reserves by 491 Bcfe or 72% last year. The company’s proved reserves as of Dec. 31, 2004 totaled 1.18 Tcfe, comprised of 943 Bcf of natural gas and 39 million barrels of oil and natural gas liquids.

ConocoPhillips Expects 2Q Production to Mirror 1Q

ConocoPhillips’ upstream unit, comprised of crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids production on a boe/d basis, is expected to be near first quarter levels, the company said last week in an interim second quarter report. While the results benefited from a full quarter’s output from Venezuela facilities and new wells coming online in China, the gains were offset by normal seasonal declines in Alaska, Norway and the United Kingdom.
