Clean Energy Fuels Corp. will construct and operate two compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle fueling stations in the New York City area, the company said. The first station will be in Queens, and the second will open adjacent to Newark, NJ’s Liberty International Airport. Designed to support growing fleets of CNG taxis, limousines and paratransit vehicles, the Queens and Newark Airport stations will also be available 24 hours a day for public access. The Queens facility is to be built on property owned by New York City’s largest taxi fleet owner. Construction is set to begin in May with a targeted opening slated for fall. The Newark Airport station is to be co-located with a new convenience store. The Clean Energy/Newark Airport Plaza CNG station is scheduled to open in June. Clean Energy has a CNG station at LaGuardia Airport and has assumed management of four of National Grid’s CNG stations in the New York metropolitan area, including the station at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The Seal Beach, CA-based company recently struck a fleet deal with AT&T (see Daily GPI, April 5).

Altech-Eco Corp. of Asheville, NC, has obtained a certificate of conformity from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its 2010 Ford Transit Connect compressed natural gas (CNG) conversion system. The conversion allows the vehicle to run entirely on natural gas, making it the only EPA-certified 2010 CNG system for the 2010 Transit Connect worldwide, the company said. Households or companies can receive a $4,000 federal income tax credit by purchasing the vehicle. A bi-fuel option using both CNG and gasoline is also available. The CNG conversion system for the Transit Connect is now available at participating Ford dealers and approved aftermarket conversion facilities, or by contacting Altech-Eco.

A new compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling center is slated for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to fuel 46 rental car shuttle buses at the international airport. DFW announced Monday that it had awarded a 10-year contract to Seal Beach, CA-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to supply the CNG, something it already does at DFW. The final contract is in process of completion. The new Clean Energy Rental Car Center CNG station is slated to open in May, providing 24/7 fueling services to CNG vehicles operating at the airport and in surrounding communities. When the fleet is fully deployed, it is anticipated that the station will dispense more than 500,000 gallons per year. In a related action, DFW also awarded an extension of Clean Energy’s existing contract to maintain and supply the airport’s existing on-site CNG station until June 2020. The station fuels the airport’s terminal buses and operations fleets. It also fuels private fleets, including door-to-door shuttle vans and taxi cabs that were recently granted front-of-the-line privileges for using CNG. The station dispenses more than two million gallons annually. James Harger, Clean Energy Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President, said, “The new rental car center station contract, along with the airport’s decision to extend the term of our current fueling services agreement, grows our ongoing partnership with DFW, where we have been providing natural gas services since 2001.
