A subsidiary of Newport Beach, CA-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. said Thursday it has signed a three-year, $167 million deal with a Chinese-based natural gas/propane pipeline company to provide up to 416 compressed natural gas (CNG) compressors and related technologies to support development of more than 300 CNG fueling stations throughout China. Growth of CNG in China is expected to outpace U.S. expansion, Clean Energy executives said.

Encana Corp. has opened a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station in Parachute, CO, its eighth North American fueling station since it began several years ago to actively integrate what it produces into its transportation and drilling rig units.

Chicago-basedTrillium CNGandGolden Eagle Distributors Inc. opened the first public access heavy-duty compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station in Casa Grande, AZ, a Phoenix suburb. Golden Eagle will use the facility to fuel its delivery fleet, and the fueling station also will be open to the public 24/7, including Class 8 trucks. All major credit cards and fleet cards are good at the station, and Trillium said it will be making special fuel pricing programs available to encourage other fleets in the area to switch to CNG. Making the station public is part of Golden Eagle’s efforts to make CNG a more viable option for local fleets and individual drivers.

On a national basis, compressed natural gas (CNG) as an alternative transportation fuel continued to make progress in mid-August, with developments including new conversion standards in California to hip SUV fleets on the Las Vegas Strip.
