They find it more at citygates rather than state borders, and the “it” is both reliability and competitive prices for wholesale natural gas supplies, according to natural gas purchasing executives who spoke last Wednesday at the “LDC Forum: Rockies and the West” conference in Los Angeles.

Northeast Rebounds; Most Points Slightly Softer
After taking dives a day earlier, Northeast citygates rebounded by fairly substantive amounts Wednesday as blizzard conditions continued to rage from the Mid-Atlantic though southern New England. However, nearly all of the rest of the cash market was flat to nearly 15 cents lower as the wintry weather penetrating a great deal of North America failed to have much impact on most prices.

Northeast Plunges Run Counter to Overall Firmness
Although Northeast citygates were descending rapidly from the lofty heights they had reached in pre-weekend trading, most of the market continued to rise Monday as a widespread snowstorm continued to envelop the Midwest, Northeast and even the northern reaches of the South. The general firmness also was supported by the previous Friday’s 9.9-cent increase by March futures and the return of industrial load from its normal weekend hiatus.

Northeast Soars on Blizzard Forecast; Most Points Softer
Prices continued to soar at Northeast citygates Thursday as a major winter storm was targeting that region and the Mid-Atlantic going into the weekend. But with temperatures remaining merely cold in the Midwest and still refusing to go below freezing in the South and much of the West outside the Rockies, the rest of the market was flat to moderately lower.

Northeast Finally Gets In on Rising Price Action
Northeast citygates, after holding back from the overall advances posted in the rest of the cash market in the first two days of this week, handily led gains at nearly all other points Wednesday. The general price strength occurred despite severely cold weather not being predicted for Thursday outside northern sections of the Northeast and Rockies, the Upper Plains and much of Canada.

All Points Fall; Cold-Based Holiday Rally Not Sure Bet
Triple-digit plunges continued at Northeast citygates Wednesday, and unlike a day earlier they were joined by declines spreading across the board. Several sections of the market were due to get a bit more reprieve Thursday from frigid conditions previously, although lows in the teens and 20s were still in the forecast from the Rockies through the Midwest, and sub-zero readings were expected in Alberta and parts of the Upper Plains.
