Wisconsin Utility, Consumer Board Agree on Efficiency Push

Green Bay, WI-based Wisconsin Public Service Corp. (WPS) and the state Citizens Utility Board (CUB) reached agreement early in September on several energy-saving initiatives for the electric and natural gas WPS customers. The CUB filed the stipulation with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) last Tuesday, seeking the regulators’ approval.

David Paterson said Thursday that he opposes construction of Broadwater Energy LLC’s controversial floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) project and associated pipeline in the middle of Long Island Sound, saying “privatizing open water would be fundamentally wrong,” and issuing an executive order to establish a planning board to find alternatives.

Most of the 250 citizens and elected officials showing up Wednesday night at a U.S. Coast Guard hearing on BHP Billiton’s proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal offshore Southern California opposed the project on safety and environmental grounds, according to a report in Thursday’s Los Angeles Times. But there were supporters who cited various state assessments that California needs new sources of natural gas.

ProLiance to Pay Huntsville Utilities $21.6M to Settle Lawsuit

ProLiance Energy LLC, a natural gas market co-owned by Vectren Corp. and Citizens Gas and Coke Utility, has agreed to pay $21.6 million to settle a 2002 civil lawsuit arising from a contract dispute with Huntsville Utilities of Alabama.

CUB Seeks $143 Million in Customer Refunds From Nicor Gas

Continuing to rally against allegedly unjust practices by Nicor Gas, the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) claims that the utility owes customers $143.3 million in refunds, or about $75 for the average customer, as a result of a complicated scheme the company allegedly embarked on to defraud consumers at a time when they were paying record high gas prices.
