CenterPoint issued an Operational Alert and reduced capacity on Line 2 South to 115,000 Dth/d Wednesday, saying the restriction will be in effect until unscheduled repairs of Unit #5 at Custer Station are completed. The expected duration of this work is one week, the pipeline said.

In a decision that could knock gas demand down a notch in Texas, CenterPoint subsidiary Texas Genco Holdings said it will mothball 2,990 MW of older gas-fired generation because of an oversupply situation. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has forecast a 20% reserve margin this year. Significant new and more efficient merchant power has been built in the state, pushing older plants out of the market.

Minnesota LDC Warns Customers About March Gas Price Run-up
With natural gas prices currently spiking, CenterPoint Energy Minnegasco (CEM) informed its residential gas customers that the March natural gas billing rate is going to be much higher than it was for February.

CenterPoint (formerly Reliant) declared a systemwide Critical Period effective Saturday until further notice, saying it required shippers and pool managers “to stay in balance and have adequate supplies to meet deliveries.”
