Bentek: Gas Pipes Gird for Battle in Northeast Market

A fierce interregional battle is set to rage in June, when the Rockies Express Pipeline (REX) East, carrying up to 1.6 Bcf/d, completes its march into Lebanon, OH. REX East will face an onslaught of gas pouring in from Midcontinent shale and tight gas production, as well as Appalachia’s Marcellus Shale, Evergreen, CO-based Bentek Energy LLC said last week.

Futures Drop 45.5 Cents in a Week Despite Colder Temps

Carrying over Thursday’s bearish momentum into Friday, February natural gas futures put in a low at $5.423 in morning trade before inching higher late in the regular session to close at $5.516, down 6.7 cents on the day and 45.5 cents lower than the previous week’s close. Despite the bearish week, some market experts are still holding on to their bulls’ club membership cards, albeit a little less tightly.

FERC Clears Way for REX Testing, Producers Shut In Gas

FERC last Tuesday denied producer-shippers’ request for a Commission injunction to block Rockies Express Pipeline (REX) from carrying out hydrostatic testing on its line, a move that producers contend will shut in half of the Rockies natural gas flowing on the pipeline at the height of hurricane and storage injection seasons. Rockies produers’ gas prices fell below $1 at the start of the testing, but then quickly rebounded.
