Voters in three Mid-Atlantic states support energy development, which includes constructing the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) project, a 1.5 Bcf/d, 550-mile natural gas system that would move Appalachian Basin supplies from West Virginia to North Carolina, according to polling data released Thursday by Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA).

Nearly 28,000 comments on the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) were filed at FERC during a recent 60-day scoping period, 82% of them in support of the project, according to an analysis prepared for the project’s backers by Natural Resource Group.

Dominion Resources Inc. is buying Carolina Gas Transmission (CGT) from SCANA Corp. for $492.9 million. CGT owns and operates nearly 1,500 miles of federally regulated interstate natural gas pipeline in South Carolina and southeastern Georgia.

A key pipeline project designed to pair increasing production of Marcellus and Utica Shale gas with growing markets in the Southeast is also expected to give an economic boost to the states where it will be located.

Construction and operation of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline is expected to have a significant economic impact in West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina, according to a study commissioned by the four utility companies behind the project.

The backers of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, led by Dominion, have filed to begin FERC’s prefiling process for the 550-mile project, which would cost more than $4.5 billion and deliver Marcellus/Utica shale gas to Virginia and North Carolina.
