AES Corp.’s energy service arm, NewEnergy, said yesterday it hasreceived its business license as an alternative supplier ofelectricity from the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN).The company will be able to sell electricity to Nevada consumers assoon as the market is opened to competition.

Renamed Atlantic Alliance Ends Open Season
Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co., a business unit of El Paso EnergyCorp., and CNG Transmission Corp., a subsidiary of ConsolidatedNatural Gas Co. said the Atlantic Alliance Project open seasonclosed Nov. 30. Tennessee and CNG are evaluating results and willannounce plans at a later date. To avoid confusion with theAlliance Pipeline, which is not affiliated with Tennessee’s andCNG’s project, the name of this phase of the project, and anyfuture phases, has been changed to the Atlantic Advantage Project.Atlantic Advantage Project proposes to move up to 750,000 Dth/dfrom Chicago and the Niagara Import Point to developing markets inthe Northeast. An El Paso spokesman said the company didn’t knowwhen it would be prepared to release open season results.
AES Subsidiaries Sign Up New Jersey Businesses
The New Jersey Business & Industry Alliance (NJBIA), thelargest state-level employer association in the nation, isorganizing an energy purchasing pool to join the New Jersey choiceprogram. The group has selected NewEnergy and Power Direct,subsidiaries of independent power producer AES Corp. to create thepool Power New Jersey.
Tesoro Selling Domestic E&P to EEX
Tesoro Petroleum Corp. of San Antonio, TX, agreed to sell all ofits domestic exploration and production business to EEX Corp. ofHouston for $216 million.
