Energy Secretary Calls Shale Gas a ‘Big Deal’

The shale-induced brimming natural gas supply is one of three “major themes” — the other two being world oil prices and climate change policy — that will drive U.S. energy policy in the years ahead, said the head of a Washington, DC-based nonprofit energy and environmental research group last Tuesday. Energy Secretary Steven Chu called shale gas a “big deal” because “gas will be [the] transition fuel as [we] go to renewables.”

Midcontinent Avoids East Softness; Most of West Firm

This week’s overall cash market rally was running out of steam for the most part Wednesday as mostly moderate weather and brimming storage facilities took their toll on the majority of prices. However, most western points were able to rise due to rising heat levels in the desert Southwest, chilly weather in the Rockies and Pacific Northwest and the easing of some excess supply/storage constraints.

Sempra Primed for Rockies Pipeline, LNG Project Finance, CFO Says

Brimming with confidence fueled by a strong portfolio of businesses, San Diego-based Sempra Energy is bullish about its prospects in a joint venture to build a major new natural gas pipeline from the Rockies to the East. It also expects to project finance all three of its proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminals, CEO Neal Schmale told analysts at the Bank of America 2005 Energy Conference in San Diego Tuesday.
