Southern Natural, Petal Offer New Storage Capacity, Delivery Service

Southern Natual Gas (SNG) is soliciting bids for gas storage and delivery capacity from a proposed natural gas storage cavern that would be constructed by affiliate Petal Gas Storage LLC at the existing Petal storage field in Forrest County, MS. The company plans to have the 5 Bcf salt cavern with 500 MMcf/d of deliverability in service in April 2007.

Anadarko CEO Offers No Comment on Possible Bids, Says Changes to Improve Earnings

Anadarko Petroleum Corp. officials offered no comment to rumors that the huge independent may be for sale, but a report Friday in a London publication suggested that Royal Dutch/Shell Group may be considering a $10 billion bid for the company. Shell has played bridesmaid in attempts for the past few years to capture other gas-rich North American independents, but none were as large or as formidable as the world-class producer.

Capacity bids submitted for Wyckoff Gas Storage Project’s recent open season exceeded the 6 Bcf of available Phase I working gas capacity by more than 50%, and the sponsors plan to hold another open season for additional capacity as part of its Phase II expansion. The project is sponsored by Emera Inc. and Falcon Gas Storage subsidiary Greyhawk Gas Storage Co.

FERC To Hear Oral Arguments in Western Power Contract Cases on April 23

FERC will hear oral arguments this Wednesday related to bids by Nevada Power Co., Sierra Pacific Power Co. and two other western-based power entities to reform several power contracts they entered into with power suppliers during the height of the 2000-2001 western energy crisis, the Commission said last week.

Union Gas Limited is taking bids through noon EDT Thursday (Sept. 5) for up to 3 Bcf of short-term peak storage service at its Dawn Hub in Ontario over the 2002/2003 winter season. The service is available for the Sept. 6, 2002-March 31, 2003 period. Delivery and receipt points will be at Dawn. Eastern Power Grid Operators Seek Natural Gas Infrastructure Study

The Independent Electricity Market Operator (IMO) of Ontario is soliciting bids for a “Multi-Region Natural Gas Infrastructure Study” covering the northeastern United States and Canada. IMO is coordinating the study on behalf of six other entities, including the New York ISO, PJM Interconnection, ISO New England, the Northeast Power Coordinating Council and the North American Electric Reliability Council.
