Municipal Joins Usource’s Online Bidding

Unitil Corp. said yesterday it executed its first aggregated onlinenatural gas transaction for a municipality, the Village of Ilion,NY. Usource, a service of Unitil Corp., is an internet-based energyauction service that caters to customers in Pennsylvania, New York andNew England. Usource’s customers include MI Energy, LLC, the New YorkCity Housing Authority and major industrial firms in the region (seeDaily GPI, March 28).

Sempra Bidding for Fourth Mexican Project

Sempra Energy International is in the running for its third gasproject in Mexico with its bid to build distribution infrastructureto serve the cities of Torreon, Gomez, Palacio, Ciudad Lerdo, andDurango with the La Laguna-Durango system. Mexico’s EnergyRegulatory Commission (CRE) will announce the winning bidder nolater than May 20.

OK Retail Unbundling Postponed Until Mid-2001

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) has delayed the startdate for retail gas unbundling in the state from Oct. 1, 1999 toJune 1, 2001. Retail unbundling affects gas utilities serving morethan 25,000 customers. The commission order delaying unbundlingalso allows groups wanting to propose competitive purchase programsat earlier dates to submit their proposals for commissionconsideration.

Columbia Gas Wins Bid for New Service

Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania last week beat out Equitable Gas inthe bidding to provide service to new commercial and residentialbuildings that are slated to be constructed on a former LTV steelsite on the city of Pittsburgh’s South Side. The site, which isowned by the city’s Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), currentlyis in the midst of major redevelopment.
