Puget Sound Energy to Lower Gas Rates 17.1%

Bellevue, WA-based Puget Sound Energy (PSE) filed with Washington state regulators Monday to lower its overall retail natural gas rates 17.1% this winter — the second gas rate decrease this year. The latest decrease would be effective Oct. 1, and it follows a 1.8% drop in gas charges that went into effect June 1.

PSE Seeks 12.5% Gas Rate Drop, $175M General Hike

Bellevue, WA-based Puget Sound Energy (PSE) late Friday asked Washington state regulators to cut its retail natural gas utility rates 12.5% overall and 16.4% for residential customers, effective June 1. Separately, the Puget Energy combination utility also asked the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) to begin an 11-month review of what PSE called moderate general rate hikes collectively totaling $175.2 million for its gas and electric utility customers.

Green Methane Eyed by WA Public-Private Partners

Bellevue, WA-based Puget Sound Energy (PSE), Kings County, WA, and landfill gas specialist Bio Energy-Washington have joined forces on a project to use super-clean landfill gas to produce 35 MW in PSE’s existing gas-fired generation plants. They expect to produce up to 5.5 MMcf/d of “green” methane from the landfill.

Puget Sound Energy Sets Demand Records

Although the official start of spring is less than two weeks away, Bellevue, WA-based Puget Sound Energy (PSE) said Wednesday it has set new one-day sendout records for natural gas and electricity in March. The Puget Energy utility said a beneficial side effect is that the added gas demand from customers is giving the utility a chance to fill up its storage reservoir with more low-priced supplies that are now available.

$7.4B Deal to Privatize Puget Sound Energy Gets Final OK

A $7.4 billion deal by a consortium of private investors to acquire Bellevue, WA-based Puget Sound Energy (PSE) and take it private cleared a final regulatory hurdle last Tuesday when the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) on a split 2-1 vote gave a heavily conditioned approval. WUTC approved a multi-party settlement from last summer that included its own staff.

Puget Sound Energy Sets Another Gas Record

The Pacific Northwest’s continued below-freezing temperatures pushed Bellevue, WA-based Puget Sound Energy (PSE) to another record natural gas sendout Friday, surpassing one the utility set earlier in the week. PSE said natural gas demand hit 780,000 MMBtu on Friday, compared to 755,881 MMBtu last Tuesday.

Puget Energy Sets Demand Record on Northwest Cold Spell

A stubborn cold front that has enveloped the Pacific Northwest sparked record natural gas and electricity sendouts for Bellevue, WA-based Puget Sound Energy (PSE) Tuesday, eclipsing a power demand marker that had stood for a decade, according to the combination utility. With forecasts for continued colder-than-normal temperatures in western Washington state, PSE was advising its customers to use power and gas wisely.

Merger Target Puget Energy Sees Red

Expecting a final state of Washington regulatory merger approval to take its utility operations private before year-end, Bellevue, WA-based Puget Energy reported a financial bump last Wednesday, announcing a third quarter net loss of $8.2 million, or minus 6 cents/diluted share, compared to net income of $11.4 million, or 10 cents/share, for the same period last year. Due to its pending $7.4 billion merger with a consortium of private investors, Puget senior executives did not hold a conference call with financial analysts.
