The workshop was sponsored by a regional association of governments and the California Energy Commission (CEC). Demographics, economic development, and environmental protection held equal time with various energy supply/demand assessments.

SD, Montana Public Power Advocates Attempt to Buy NorthWestern

As a continuation of initiatives begun during NorthWestern Corp.’s recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy process, local government-backed pubic power advocates in Montana and South Dakota decided late last month to join forces in ongoing efforts to structure a public-sector purchase of the company, whose principal electric and natural gas utility operations are concentrated in those two states. The company had no comment since there is no formal proposal in play, a spokesperson said Tuesday.

Analyst Drops Odds on Multi-Emissions Bill Following Senate Committee Vote

Christine Tezak, an analyst with Stanford Washington Research Group, last Wednesday dropped her odds for multi-emissions legislation backed by the Bush Administration being enacted into law this year to roughly 1 in 10 after the measure (S. 131) deadlocked in the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on a bipartisan vote of 9 to 9.
