The long-awaited Rockies Express Pipeline (REX) was accepting nominations today Friday for initial deliveries Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, starting up initial operations of the massive pipeline from the fastest growing U.S. supply region. The long-awaited draft plan that designates energy transport corridors on federal lands in 11 western states for developing future oil, natural gas and hydrogen pipelines, as well as electricity transmission and distribution lines, was unveiled Thursday.

In a sign that the long-awaited Mackenzie Gas Pipeline (MGP) might yet be built, Calgary-based MGM Energy Corp. agreed to ship 200 MMcf/d on the pipeline backers’ proposed Mackenzie Gathering System (MGS). The agreement also gives MGM the option to own a share of the planned gathering system.

Even with an unprecedented heat storm and resource-consuming revisions to its long-awaited market redesign, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) lowered its operating costs substantially for a fifth consecutive year in 2006, according to the grid operator’s annual report. Moderating natural gas prices were cited as one of the drivers.
