Southern Energy CEO Exits After Banner Quarter
Southern Energy Inc. (SEI), one of Southern Co.’s mainsubsidiaries, named S. Marce Fuller its new CEO last week. Underthe leadership of the former CEO, Tom Boren, SEI reported $69million in second-quarter 1999 earnings, compared with $25 millionfor the same period last year. Now it is up to Fuller to continuehis success.

CNG Transmission is holding an open season to solicit interestin 45-to-60-day firm storage service available in the 2001-2002winter season. The Market Choice Storage Project offers a limitedopportunity to obtain firm market-area storage on the CNGT system.The service includes up to three turns in the winter season, noratchets if inventory stays above 35 percent, and a five-year term.Price estimates are at projected General Storage Services and FirmTransportation rate schedules. CNGT’s pipeline system has access tosupply basins in Canada, the Gulf Coast, Midcontinent, andAppalachia for storage refill opportunities. The system offers keydelivery points, such as Leidy, Oakford, Ellisburg, Nokesville,numerous LDC citygates and its North and South points. The openseason began yesterday and concludes at 5 p.m. EDT April 30. CNGanticipates rolled-in pricing under Rate Schedule GSS. Facing Low Prices, Phillips Cuts Jobs, Spending
Low commodity prices have driven Bartlesville, OK-based PhillipsPetroleum Co. to cut 1,400 jobs and costs and increase availablecash flow in 1999. “We don’t anticipate margin improvements in thenear term, therefore we are adjusting our plans accordingly,” saidCEO Wayne Allen. “The changes will impact our level of operatingcosts, staffing requirements and capital spending. We are takingthese steps to improve our financial performance and create valuefor our shareholders.”
ANR Plans New, Expanded Services
Coastal’s ANR Pipeline is seeking FERC approval to implement twonew interruptible services and expand service options availableunder its firm storage service tariff. The proposed new servicesare called interruptible parking and lending service, andinterruptible wheeling service. “We are offering these new servicesin response to requests by our customers, who have indicated a needfor more product choices and flexibility due to the dynamic natureof today’s natural gas marketplace,” said Jeffrey A. Connelly, ANRCEO. “The revisions we are proposing to our firm storage servicewill provide ANR’s shippers with an array of additional serviceflexibility in managing their supply portfolios.”
